Each Leaptop has one of two puppy hosts, Violet or Scout. Depending on which Leaptop version you buy, one of these adorable puppies will accompany your child through all of the activities. Kids will even have access to Violet or Scout's personal blog by pressing the Blog button.
An Introduction to Letters, Animals, Music, and More
The Leaptop's three play modes and three function buttons will help your child learn the basics while having fun. Alphabet mode teaches letters and phonics; Music mode turns the alphabet pad into a music sampling machine, so your child can contribute musical animal noises and funny audio effects to songs; and Animal mode teaches kids to identify animals and their sounds.

You'll want to personalize your child's Leaptop by connecting it to your computer with the included USB cable. After connecting to the Leapfrog Web site, you can create a parent account that allows you to customize this toy laptop by creating a profile for your child.
You'll also be able to select songs for the Music Playlist and set up personalized emails from Scout or Violet and other friends and relatives in your child's life. Additional Scout and Violet downloads are available for purchase, and printable coloring sheets are available for free.

Cultivate your child's love of reading with the V.Reader Interactive E-Reading System. Designed for kids aged 3 to 7, this toy offers three ways to learn. Kids can watch, listen, and read stories, play reading games, and look up words in the story dictionary. The educational games encourage reading by improving vocabulary, writing, and phonetic skills. The V.Reader also features a touch screen sensitive enough for young fingers to operate with or without the included stylus. With a 3.5-inch colorful touch screen, easy-access buttons, and a full keyboard, the V.Reader offers full functionality. The touch screen works effectively with either a stylus or fingers. Our testers found that the letter buttons are small and take getting used to, but there are not many games that require them.
A cover closes over the front to keep the buttons and touch screen safe when the toy is not in use. Your child can also listen to stories through headphones, making it a great toy for the car or quiet time.

The game includes 300 cards featuring 1,200 puzzles with two levels of difficulty. An easy example is "Sand Tack Laws" being Santa Claus, while a hard clue might be "Thigh Sing Gone Thick Ache" (the icing on the cake). A timer, a flipper, labels, a score pad, and instructions are also included.

The Explorer comes with a free Leaplet download that you'll chose from a collection of games and activities on the LeapFrog site. You can access the free download after connecting the Explorer to your computer with the included USB cable and setting up an account. Other preloaded extras include previews and trailers for current and upcoming Explorer titles and Pet Pad, a digital pet that kids can design, play with, and care for.
Grow Your Explorer Library and Your Child's Learning Opportunities
Though the Explorer device comes with a free Leaplet download and a few entertaining extras, you'll want to purchase additional cartridges and Leaplets. LeapFrog has created over 30 games and activities and continues to expand its selection.

Other Expandables
The Leaplet Explorer provides access to Leap World, an online virtual space where kids can create their own character, build spaces, and expand their learning and entertainment opportunities.
With the camera and video recorder attachment, the Explorer transforms into a creative multi-media tool. Kids can take pictures and video recordings, edit the material with fun effects, then email the results to family and friends. These fun projects can even be used in other Explorer applications.
